Located at the former estuary of the River Kaystros, Ephesus is a city shaped by the shifting coastline and the successive civilizations that settled along it. Its Hellenistic and Roman heritage lives on through monumental architecture, including the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre, while the remnants of the Temple of Artemis evoke the legacy of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Inspired by the architectural language of Ephesus, Pillars is a modular collection of objects designed to blur the boundaries between functional tableware and sculptural home décor. Through a system of stackable forms, the collection explores verticality, rhythm, and proportion, allowing each object to be arranged and reconfigured in multiple ways. This inherent flexibility invites an evolving relationship between the objects and their surroundings, where each composition becomes a personal expression of space and use.
Beyond its architectural references, Pillars is a deeply personal reflection on designer Idil Kantarci’s connection to her roots. Conceived after travelling around the world, the collection marks a return to her homeland and a renewed engagement with her cultural heritage. It brings together memory, place, and material expression in a contemporary design language, transforming the idea of home into a tangible and lasting form.
